What is a Global Ideology?

Is there such a thing as a global ideology? Well perhaps not but there are ideologies that are dominant during the present period of globalisation. Imperialism and communism were other great periods of 'globalisation' having their own ideological justification (based on collective state ownership of the means of economic production or a cultural and economic civilising mission radiating from Western Europe). In the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries, European Imperialism was perhaps the most pervasive form of globalisation that the World has ever known, whilst in the Twentieth Century, communism triumphantly controlled the majority of the World's people.

Our present period of globalisation, based on the growth of global capitalism, democracy, and free trade, is also driven by an ubiquitous ideological exuberance and legitimating popular economic theories. more>>
